Samsung Galaxy S10 Update

Wireless earbuds are a new wave a headphones that I consider truly wireless. You are probably familiar with this type of headphones as they are connected via Bluetooth with no wire running between each earbud nor to the device. Brands like Bose, Samsung and Apple, have made their own type of wireless earbuds, each average around $199. Earbuds are said to have incredibly long battery life and they come with a charging case that can recharge the buds twice over, meaning they will almost never need charge even after extensive use. Even though these headphones are exceptional  in quality they are expensive to say the least and you might be on edge about getting appear, especially if your not a millennial. However, if you are planning on buying the Galaxy S10, you might be in luck and get your self a free pair of earbuds. If you have no Interest in Samsung’s galaxy S10,  you should reconsider, due to free earbuds not being the only perk you’d be getting with the phone. For more information on additional features of the S10, click here to check out my earlier article detailing a big key feature of the S10. Yes, you can potentially earn yourself a pair of these headphones if you pre-order a Galaxy S10 when the option becomes available. Samsung is known for bestowing gifts to consumers who pre-order their products.

Truly Wireless Earbuds: Cheaper Alternatives

If you tuned into one of my earlier articles about Samsung’s galaxy buds,  you remember that I also mention Apple and Bose. You would also remember that I mentioned that the prices for their earbuds averaged about $199. Even though these headphones are paving the way for hand-free technology, you should’nt have to pay so much for it. They all come with the same  tech, just a different aesthetic and brand name. However, they are not the only brands making truly wireless headphones. Here are some cheaper alternatives that you, the consumer can look into.

Skullcandy’s  Push

3155_7133.jpg

One cheaper alternative is Skullcandy’s Push truly wireless earbuds.  they come in two colors; psycho-tropical teal (as shown in the image above) and gray. These earbuds are water resistant, so even though it probably isn’t recommended, you can keep the tunes playing while showering. it shares the same capability of the other earbuds on the market, such as volume control play/pause etc. Other than the price being a selling point, these earbuds have gel-fit technology making it extremely comfortable and locking in all sound to the user. The price for these earbuds are $129,  however Skullcandy is currently selling them for $99. Compared to the top brands, your saving about $99 and getting the same if not better quality. For more information about the Push earbuds click here (https://www.skullcandy.com/shop/earbuds/bluetooth-earbuds/push).

Pasonomi’s Wireless Earbuds

Pasonomi’s earbuds are earbuds where you can really get a bang for your buck, boasting 72 hours of play time (more than 300% the playtime of your average wireless headphone). These earbuds provide great sound quality,  and are very durable. Thanks to bluetooth 5.0, these earbuds provide effortless pairing; no more removing/adding a pair of headphones. Just like the Skullcandy these earbuds will come with multiple gel fits, so you will find the perfect fit for your ear. There are some rumors that compared to the Airpods the bass of these are non-existent, but I believe that boils down to personal preference. The price of these earbuds are $51.99 ($55.25 for the waterproof version) and currently available on Amazon. Click here to be re-directed to the buy page on Amazon.

Wireless Earbuds LiteXim

Spotify on the Prowl; Crackdown on Ad Blockers

Spotify is a music streaming used by many people. The company makes money a number of ways, but the two ways they bring in the most is by paid subscribers and monetizing the stations with ads. The thing is that they’re plenty of users poaching off the free service by using ad blockers. To the user its no big deal, to them they can listen to their station ad free without paying $9.99 a month. This however, is big deal for Spotify because they are making a commission off those ads. It wouldn’t be noticable if it were a few users, but the number of users doing this is in the thousands and when it comes to monthly or quarterly audits, and they check the ratio of free users  to subscribe users,  the findings show a huge chunk of missing money from free users.Well turns out Spotify has had enough and wont take it anymore. They are taking a punitive approach to any user using ad blockers to get by. So it is highly advise that if you are doing this, stop or else your account will get suspended.

Mirrorless Cameras: The Future of Photography

Technological advancements in photography has come along way. Currently DSLR cameras are the best known in the market, providing improved image/photo fidelity, reduced lag time, and steady focus, to reduce the blur in shaky photos. When DSLR camera was brought into the market, standard point-and-shoot and SLR cameras became a thing of the past. Unfortunately, the tech world is very unforgiving, and pretty soon, DSLR will be a thing of the past as well.

untitled.png

The production of mirrorless cameras is already underway with companies like Sony, Fujifilm, and Panasonic, already making up a huge chunk of the market. DSLR and mirrorless both provide better image quality, however the latter is mirrorless… meaning that there will be one less component that makes up a cameras nomenclature. To put it simply, the mirrorless camera will be more compacted; that’s a plus for professional photographers – shave a few ounces off that gig bag. Consequentially, these new cameras will also be produced with new proprietary lenses. If you had a complete set of lenses with your old camera, and you bought a mirrorless, you have to also purchase a new set of lenses. Not very cost effective to pros who literally spent thousands of dollars on that type of gear. Like I said before the tech industry can be unforgiving. Let me know your opinion on this topic. New Tech Industry Standard: Cloud-based Operating System

Are you disapointed in the limitations of your current laptop or tablet? Did you ever want to expand the available resources of your machine to run multiple operating systems (i.e. Windows 10 or MacOS Moajve)? This day an age, anything is possible when it comes to the  ability of your laptop. But your Windows 10 laptop can never give you what a Mac can; if you wanted a Mac you would just have to buy one, and we all know those are not cheap. Owning multiple operating systems, means owning multiple devices, and that cost alot of money. However, theres’ a solution; a way you can own multiple operating systems without buying the needed hardware. That solution is known as the cloud.

2019-01-02-image-6

The Cloud

Hopefully you understand where I’m going with this, but if you’ve lived under a rock for the past few decades, let me give you a brief explanation of what the cloud is. Cloud computing, is a shared pool of computing resources shared and distributed over the internet.  It provides high-speed provisioning of data, without the expense of heavy infrastructure implementation and regular maintenance. You would know the cloud as a way to backup your device. Companies, like Dropbox, Apple, and Google, are all examples of cloud computing, used to help you save data on their platform; this is known as Storage-as-a-service (SaaS).  This is the most common form to cloud computing that consumers come into contact with. But what if I told you that the same way you use the cloud to back up the contents on your devices, is the same way you can use the cloud to run operating systems like Windows , Linux and Mac on your same devices whenever you please? This concept of cloud computing is known as cloud-based operating systems.

image

Cloud-based Operating Systems? Why?

Up until recently whether you were a normal consumer or an IT professional in a business, you would have 4 options if you wanted to run a new operating system on a device:

1. Buy another laptop with the OS you want

This is not cost effective. Laptops/tablets/phones are built with stronger componenets ever so often, that by the time they are for retail they cost an arm and a leg. if you wanted a Mac OS(operating system) you be spending at least $1000, with the bare minimum too. Not ideal.

2.Partition a hard disk to run two Operating Systems

This option would save you money, but splitting the memory between to operating systems would decrease the performance on both ends. You would be sacrificing hard disk space and RAM , resulting in both operating systems being much slower. I would only reccoment this option if your device has at least 500 gigabytes(GBs) and over 8 GBs of Random-Access Memory (RAM – memory to run the programs); if not, don’t bother.

3. Buy an external drive with a bootable OS

This brings the money issue back up. Yes, you can get an external with 2 terabytes (TBs – 1,024 GBs) for as low as $100 – and that is alot less than that Mac for $1000 – but money is money nonetheless, and $100 can go a long way.

4. Wipe the current OS completely and replace it with the new one.

This option would be the best out of the three, but the cost of this one is losing important data. If it is worth the risk and you have nothing to lost then go for it. However, if you want to retain everyhting you have ever done on your current OS, this option probably isn’t the best for you.

The four options all have risks asscoiated with them, and as long as you understand those risks, (and you are willing to accept it) then go for it. However, cloud computing solves all of these issues, let me explaing how.

Stress

How???!?!?

If you wanted to use Windows to access the Xbox store (Only available to Windows 10) and play Forza Horizon 4, and later finish a composition on Mac using Logic Pro X (only available on MAC OSs), it would go something like this. You boot your device, select the OS you want to load (in this case, Windows 10), pull it from the cloud and play your game. Then without having to shut off your device, you minimize the window displaying Windows 10 and boot up a session with the Mac OS. Yes it would be that simple.

Tabs.jpg

You can think of it like opening up a web browser, and having multiple tabs opened all at once. with the click of a button you can easily switch tabs to one of the others; same thing with cloud-based operating systems, except the three tabs can be Windows 10, MacOS, and… Windows Vista…for whatever reason. Cloud- based operating systems would benefit in so many ways. The only requirement for the you would be to have an empty shell (whether that be a laptop, tablet or phone) with a display screen a dedicated internet connection and all the resources that would be used to run a single operating system. Samsung’s Galaxy S10 New Wi-Fi Capability: Wi-Fi 6

Apple vs. Samsung

The mobile phone market is dominated by two companies: Samsung and Apple. These two companies have a dedicated consumer base, and their products continue to push the boundaries of what smart phones are capable of. Research by Gartner indicates that both companies have sold well over 70 million phones, with Samsung trailing by a million or so, nevertheless, their phones make up 70.8% of phones sold within the U.S.; blowing other mobile phone brands like Huawei, Sony, and Nokia out the park. Even though these two competitors are close in sales (with Samsung phone being more prominent in other countries, but trailing by a few million), Samsung’s new Wi-Fi capability for their Galaxy S10 model might soon give it the technological edge over Apple to push it to the # 1 phone worldwide (in terms of sales). What is this new Wi-Fi capability? Its’ called “Wi-Fi 6”.

What is Wi-Fi 6?

ximg_5bb55b1081a78.jpg.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.ND34lK0DVh.jpg

Well, like most things in the world that has a number after it’s title (i.e. PS 2 to PS3 or John Wick to John Wick chapter 2), Wi-Fi 6 is the next-generation of Wi-Fi standards. It is faster than 802.11ac, and it provides better performance overall; maintaining strong and speedy connections anywhere ( in your household or a overcrowded 5-star hotel). The official term for it is 802.11ax, but the less numbers the better.

How is Wi-Fi 6/802.11ax Better and Why?

ximg_5bb562648a554.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.ltastfZz_s.png

This new Wi-Fi is power-efficient, using less battery power for devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops. Regardless of phones specs that will come out later this year for Apple or Samsung, this alone will put the Galaxy S10 ahead of its’ competition; battery life is often one of the most common complaints from mobile phone users, especially when it comes to Apple. It is also capable or providing dedicated performance to each device connected to it, using a method known as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). OFDMA basically takes one huge wireless channel for multiple devices and divides them into smaller sub-channels, making unique connections to each device. it also improved the Multiple In/Multiple Out (MIMO) standard making is Multiple-User MIMO; allowing the access point to send/receive data from multiple devices simultaneously, where as WI-FI 5 (or 802.11ac) could send/receive from one device at a time. So no more bogged down network speed for your Samsung at you local coffee spot.

When will Wi-Fi 6 be implemented and when to expect the Galaxy S10?

There isn’t much information on the release date of Wi-Fi 6 other than the new standard being implemented sometime in 2019. This also goes for client devices, like routers capable of Wi-Fi 6, being available for retail. As for the Galaxy S10, it will most likely be release Q4 of this year.

2019_galaxy_unpacked_pre-registration_720.jpg

The date will most likely be announced at Samsung’s “UNPACKED” event, that will take place February 20, 2019 (livestream available 11AM PST). During this event, they will be showcasing  the Galaxy S10 in 3 models (S10, S10+, S10 lite). For more information about the event click this Link. Why Buying A Current-Gen Console In 2019 Could Be A Bad Idea

Lets’ face it. Gaming consoles today aren’t the same as they were a decade ago. Companies like Microsoft has shifted their business model from strictly gaming, trying to encompass entertainment as a whole with their systems; increasing their consumer base from die-hard Halo fans to family households. Where as Sony has focused entirely on gaming, releasing some outstanding AAA titles throughout the years, from the PlayStation 3 to the current-gen PlayStation 4.  These to behemoths have been at it since the beginning of time, all while Nintendo has continued to faithfully adhere to their consumer base, focusing on handheld gaming systems, promising indie titles, and local play. All in all, consoles have been getting better at an exponential rate. With that being said, is it really safe to buy a new console in 2019?

Mostly everyone today owns one of the three consoles – Nintendo Switch, Microsoft’s Xbox One, Sony’s PlayStation 4- or owns all three. However, there are those weird few who have yet to get in on it. Whether the individuals in speaking, are indecisive on which one to buy, or they have a PC and refuse to purchase a console with stagnant performance capabilities. There are individuals in 2019 that will arrive late to the party, but now might not be the right time for them. If you really think of it, These console are ever changing, with new versions of the same model releasing almost every two years. Almost a decade and a half ago, the original Xbox was released in 2001. Consumers did not see a drastic change in he system until 2005, When Microsoft released the Xbox 360, which was a overall huge upgrade from the former.  The next major iteration – Xbox One – was released a whopping 8 years later. However recently the production of upgraded systems have been overhauled. Xbox One was released in 2013, then came the Xbox One S released in 2016 – 4k native for Blu-ray DVD and movies – and a year later, Xbox One X, with native 4k and HDR capabilities was released. Sony had less iterations of their console, but I think you get the gist of what I’m getting at.

With todays market, and how fast these console are popping out, the next iteration of the current-gen consoles can and most-likely will be made public later this year, and shipped worldwide to your local gaming retailer by holiday season of 2020. this is the honest truth. I don’t want you as a consumer to completely forget about getting a console though. If your are trying to buy a console in 2019, I don’t recommend doing that at full retail price. The current-gen will get marked down once the next-gen is announced and then again when they’re released.

I do recommend – if its’ a must – buying from a site like Ebay where you can find refurbished or used models from retailers for a discounted price. There will be links below to limited time deals on Ebay.com with free shipping on select consoles.

OR

We wil all most likely hear about the next-gen at this year’s E3 conference; I am looking forward to it. If you have any thoughts you would like to share please leave a comment and I will get back to you.
